Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club offers the NSYA Mobile Sailing Program in 2009

This year our sailing school is hitting the road to take sailing lessons to youth in neighbouring communities of Arichat, Dundee and Mabou, Cape Breton.

The mobile program features a brand new fleet of Optimist dinghies. These are excellent one-design boats for students in our White Sail 1, 2 and 3 courses. These courses will be offered as one-week sessions, Monday to Friday, at locations as follows:

St Peter’s Lions Marina: July 6-10, July 20-24, July 27-31

Dundee Marina: July 13-17

Arichat-Isle Madame Boat Club: August 3-7

Mabou: August 10 – 14

At St. Peter’s Marina, in addition to the White Sail programs we offer Bronze Level4, Adult Sailing, and our Disability Sailing programs during the weeks posted above.

Adult Sailing Programs
These are offered in the evenings and are designed to meet the individual needs of each student sailor. There is some flexibility for scheduling adult sailing lessons during weekdays and weekends, depending on other school activities.

Disability Sailing Program
This innovative program has, since 2005, offered persons with disabilities the opportunity to experience the freedom of sailing on the Bras d’Or Lakes. Headquartered at the Lions ClubMarina, the program features two Access 2.3 dinghies designed specifically for use by even the most severely disabled persons. We also have a race-ready 420, flying Junior, a CL16, and a HobieCat 14 Turbo in our fleet.

The Disability Sailing Program is offered free of charge to persons with any form of disability, from ages 7 and up. Programs will be designed to suit each individual’s needs following consultation with our coordinator.
