St. Peter’s Regatta Week 2009
July 25 – August 2
This year we are presenting a host of events during that mid-summer week when our Village of St. Peter’s celebrates the annual Nicolas Denys Days (more info at www.visitstpeters.com).
Here’s what’s in store for you at our first annual Regatta Week:
Sat/Sun July 25 & 26: MacAskill Cup Races
A short-course race on Saturday afternoon starts near the north end of the canal, just off Handley’s Island. The main race starts Sunday morning at Carter’s Cove and continues on to the big lake, covering a distance of approximately 15 nautical miles buoy-to-buoy. The course offers a challenge to seasoned racing crews, and a scenic cruise for those who prefer a few hours sailing in the company of others. After the race, participants are invited to join us for a chowder supper and awards presentations, including the MacAskill Cup presentation by Mr. Jim Kehoe who donated the trophy.
Wed July 29

The St. Peter’s to Dundee Race
August 22, 2009
This is the 6th year for a revival of sailing races held many years ago, and is now a joint effort of the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club, St. Peter’s Lion’s Marina, and Dundee Marine. The race will begin at the usual Carter’s Cove start line, ending at Dundee. An awards dinner follows the race, and all participants are invited to a party afterward at the St. Georges Channel Hall.
This race is also great for cruisers, including powerboaters. Make a leisurely day cruise to Dundee on your own scenic route, and join us afterwards for dock parties, dinner and awards, and the St. Georges Channel Hall event - marina slips available at Dundee, advance reservations suggested.
