Welcome to the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club

The Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club was formed in 1998 with the aim of promoting recreational boating in the St. Peter's, Nova Scotia, as well as helping to preserve the memory of Wallace R. MacAskill, one of the areas more famous sons.
The club is located at the St. Peter's Lion Club Marina, at the entrance to the Bras d'Or lakes. We cordially welcome all members of the boating public to join us and participate in our many events throughout the summer.

Regattas

MacAskill Cup Regatta, July 14th and 15th
Featuring a warm-up race near the canal just off Handley's Island on Friday the 15th. The main race for the MacAskill Cup will take place on Saturday the 16th . It starts at Carter's Cove and continues to a marker off the Kelly Shoal Buoy off Macraes Point, before ending back at Carter's Cove, covering a distance of approximately 15 nautical miles.
The course offers both a challenge to seasoned racing crews and a scenic cruise for those who preffer a few hours sailing in the company of others. Following the race, there will be a chowder supper provided by the Lions Club followed by trophy presentations.

The MacDonnell Cup, August 4th and 5th
This race weekend was initiated by Gerry MacDonnell and is sponsored by the MacDonnell' Pharmacy. The courses covered over the two days are the same as for the MacAskill cup races.
On Saturday following the races, a barbeque is held at the St. Peter's Lions Club Marina followed by trophy presentations .

The St Peter's to Dundee Race, August 25th and 26th
This is the second year for what is a new revival of races held many years ago. It represents a joint effort by Graham Hudson of Dundee Marine, the St. Peter's Lions Club Marina and the Wallace MacAskill Yacht club.
This year we will have a warm up race on the 26th with much the same course as for the MacAskill Cup and the MacDonnell Cup races, with the main race starting at Carter's Cove and ending off at the Dundee Marina for the Dundee Marine - Island Resources Trophy.
We will also incorporate a cruise for members with power boats and sail boaters who do not wish to race. Events following the race will be held at the Stuffing Box Restaurant located at the Dundee Marina. Trophy presentations will follow.

We are pleased to announce, that in addition to our regular sponsors, the St. Peter's Lion's Club, MacDonnell's Pharmacy and Dundee Marine, Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation has come on board as the main sponsor for all three regatta weekend events.

In addition to our major undertakings, the Wallace MacAskill Yacht Club also is involved in the Nicholas Denis Day celebrations and also plans to sponsor cruises for seniors .
